The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) decided to close the retractable roof of the Millennium Stadium in Wales. The decision came due to concerns terrorists could pilot a drone into the stadium during the Champions League final.

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) said safety was a "primary objective". The FAW announced they made the decision to shut the 74,000-capacity stadium's roof for the match following "recommendations made by the authorities over the last few weeks". This will be the first Champions League final played under a closed roof.

Security is on high alert following a “targeted attack on Borussia Dortmund, a Champions League football team". Police confirmed there were three explosions near the team's bus, and a fourth, undetonated device was found in the vicinity of the team hotel.

The UK has also raised its terrorism threat level in the wake of the suicide bomb attack in Manchester that killed 22 people, causing many sporting events to revise their security plans.

Event and sport officials are preparing for any potential risk, drone attacks are a real and looming threat to events and venues where large crowds will gather.
