The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), in close coordination with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), has officially designated Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, as a ‘No Drone Zone.’ Stringent Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) will be enforced not only at the stadium on game day but also across downtown San Francisco and prominent landmarks in the days leading up to the event.
To maintain the safety of fans, players, and critical infrastructure, federal authorities are deploying specialized capabilities to detect, track, and assess all drone activity in the region. The restrictions are tiered to address various high-traffic event areas:
Downtown San Francisco (Feb 3–Feb 7): A 2-nautical-mile (nm) radius restriction up to 2,000 feet will cover major venues including the Moscone Center, The Ferry Building, and Grace Cathedral during peak event times.
Levi’s Stadium (Game Day, Feb 8):
Pre-game (10:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. PST): 2 nm radius, up to 2,000 feet.
During the Game (2:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. PST): The restricted zone expands significantly to a 30-nautical-mile radius and up to 18,000 feet in altitude.
Post-game (8:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. PST): Restrictions return to a 2 nm radius up to 2,000 feet.
The FBI and FAA have made it clear that there is zero tolerance for unauthorized flights. Drone operators who enter restricted airspace without explicit federal authorization may face:
Fines exceeding $75,000.
Immediate confiscation of their drone equipment.
Federal criminal charges.
The FBI is legally authorized to use mitigation tools to move unauthorized aircraft out of restricted areas and seize them as evidence for prosecution.
While federal agencies secure the national airspace, local organizations and venue managers need reliable tools to monitor their immediate surroundings. At AirSight, we provide the situational awareness necessary to comply with federal mandates and protect private property.
